I have not seen many Italian films lately, but this film does a grand job as a realistic gangster film. The protagonist is not a Sicilian or Neapolitan, but a Calabresi. Not as organized as the Mafia, Santo's gang is a local hood doing armed burglary, kidnapping, and drug trafficking. Santo doesn't expand his ambition beyond having a nice house, nice sports cars, and a fancy girlfriend. Even though the Italian police seems ineffective at the beginning, Santo is ultimately arrested and given a deal to snitch in return for a new life. While Santo is a wild and violent criminal, his wife is a devout Catholic who took on her husband's sins out of love. Mainly dealing with the live of marginal Italian criminals in Milan, the audience get a good glimpse into the lives of Calabrasi in Milan.
SYNOPSIS: 1980s Milan is an economic boom-town, and 'Santo Russo' (Riccardo Scamarcio) begins to rise to prominence on a wave of crime and excess.
